PET Bottle 3D Printing Filament Making Machine
The PET Bottle Filament Making Machine is a compact system that transforms discarded plastic bottles into high-quality 3D printing filament. It cuts bottles into strips, melts and extrudes them, and carefully spools the filament with precise control over temperature and diameter. Developed as a client project for a STEM institution, it demonstrates sustainable engineering, and we’re working on making the design files available for those interested (contact us). This project was made in collaboration with Eng. Mahmoud Itani

The PET Bottle Filament Making Machine successfully demonstrates a sustainable and low-cost approach to recycling plastic waste into usable 3D printing filament. By integrating a custom-designed mechanical frame, extrusion mechanism, and a reliable PID-controlled heating system, the project achieves consistent filament extrusion from PET bottles

Overall, the project demonstrates the feasibility of transforming waste PET bottles into valuable 3D printing material through a compact, efficient, and locally manufacturable device. It provides a strong foundation for further development—such as automated feeding, improved cooling, or filament diameter sensing—and serves as a practical educational tool promoting environmental sustainability and engineering innovation.
